Covid-19 Update

All of Ontario is moving into Phase 1 beginning Friday, June 11th.
We will be opening to customers on Friday with a 15% capacity. All customers are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Staff are still required to have read prior to every shift and initial the Covid questionnaire at the Rentals entrance.
PPE - David Yule
When we reopen on Friday morning, staff must wear required PPE. While under lockdown with the store closed, this was relaxed somewhat and as an example, regular shoes were permitted for store staff. But safety shoes and all other required PPE must be worn again.
Continued Delivery Delays

A reminder that our Tuesday truck delivery is cancelled until October of this year at the earliest. Please keep this in mind when placing orders and communicating with customers.
Power Tools/Outdoor Power Equipment
Last month we asked that staff have a look over the new offerings from Radley and Benchmark. Radley is a new product line that Home Hardware introduced in 2020, and Benchmark is in the midst of a complete overhaul of it's lineup and marketing/branding. See the below table for more information on where these brands fit into the marketplace.

Product Showcase
As we all know, the price of lumber has continued to rise all season and it has become more and more difficult to source. For the entirety of 2021, all building material suppliers are on allocation for pressure treated lumber. We have a designated amount of PT that will ship to us in each quarter, when we're out we're out. Composite deck and cedar pricing are also on the rise and demand is expected to outpace supply . Because of this we have sourced a few new products in order to meet market demand.
On the decking front, a new product trademarked as 'Thermory Benchmark Pine' has arrived in the lumberyard. Thermory is a modified thermal decking product that is steam treated and comes with a 25 year warranty. This product is a great alternative to cedar. Learn more about this new decking here and ask the lumber desk to see a sample!
On the fencing side of things, we have sourced Japanese Sugi 6ft fence boards. This species of wood shares most of the same traits of Western Red Cedar. It is lightweight, resistant to insects and rot and has a cedar like smell. This product has landed in British Columbia and is due to arrive into our yard mid June.

Garden Centre

We received a delivery of tropical plants & flowers this week and will be getting in ornamental grasses next week.
Home Installs on our Website
Home Installs now has their own page on our store website. You can view it at www.portelginhomehardware.ca/home-installs. We will continue to update it with jobs as they're completed as long as customers allow us to take photos and use them.
We will also be adding a page for Beaver Homes & Cottages in the next few months, with examples of full home & cottage builds.
Timeclock
A new form has been posted beside the timeclock to record any time in/out when unable to use the timeclock properly. We continue to receive random pieces of paper with hours on them, some include no name, some no date. This chart is to better track this information.
If at any time you are unable to use the timeclock properly, please fill out this chart and Jenny will insert your time manually.
This is not an alternative to keeping your key fob on you. Entering the information manually is time consuming, please only use this form when necessary.
Vacation Booked Schedule
Along with the weekly staff schedule, the Vacation Booked Schedule is now on our website at www.portelginhomehardware.ca/schedule. Please check it before requesting time off.
Getting To Know You
This month's profile is of David Yule, the store's Floor Manager.

David returned to the area after 32 years in the manufacturing sector in Mississauga, Vaughan and Brampton. He was in Operations Management, specializing in Plant Amalgamations and Plant Startups.
He started at the store in 2017 on the Lumber Desk. A year later, Jeff recognized the potential of someone with his management background and created a new position of Floor Manager for David. He took over much of the store operations from Jeff, which allowed Jeff to devote more of his time to his other responsibilities.
David loves being back in the area, especially because of the slower pace of life and the great roads for motorcycling. He is very happy with his position at the store and gives many kudos to the staff, whom he enjoys working with very much. He also hopes to retire before he's 95 years old! š
